3-2-1-Ignition* is the place to come and visit to let your curiosities wonder. We opened in the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre in Nottingham for four weeks last autumn, and then popped up at the Barbican centre in London in March and April. We are always looking for new partnerships and new potential sites to pop up at!

The idea of the pop-up shop is to use the empty retail shops and bring them alive with a whole host of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths activities. Bringing science to the high street, and to test the idea of an alternative; out of school classroom.

Schools were invited to visit and take part in creative activities, workshops and sessions to surprise, excite wonder and delight.

The first ‘shop’ coincided with Nottingham’s 7th Game City Festival that took place from the 20th to the 27th of October 2012. The shop also promoted Nottingham as a Science City (not many people know that).

We are also testing the idea of popping up at public events, conferences and festivals etc… wherever families can learn and explore together!

At the Barbican centre, 3-2-1-ignition* was there as part of a larger festival of neuroscience.

What type of things happen in the shop?

  • Drop-in STEM activities, demonstrations of creative innovations
  • Creative and scientific workshops
  • Experts running careers advice space
  • a space where you will be invited to ask your STEM questions and then you’ll find the answers to them in an interactive Lab_13 style of experiment and research.
  • lots of other exciting and unknown things…

3-2-1-Ignition* is a place where people of all ages can experiment with new ideas and let their curiosity loose.

Keep an eye on the blog for the latest updates and news of where we are popping up next.
